Alexa Nasonti, a 25-year-old former art teacher at Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Ohio, who was charged in June 2012  after she allegedly had sex with a student, has pleaded guilty to sexual battery for engaging in sexual conduct with a 17-year-old boy at a home in Bellevue.

Her guilty plea came in a deal that would give her no more than 18 months in prison, but she will be labeled as a sex offender. The sentencing is scheduled for October 29 at 9:30 a.m.

Castalia police said Nasonti was found with the boy on April 2 at 9 p.m. in a parked car at Lion’s Park near the Margaretta School District Board of Education Office. Hundreds of texts between a Norwalk teacher and her student led to criminal and administrative investigations as the messages hinted that there was sexual conduct between the two at a home in Bellevue on March 31.

Nasonti pleaded not guilty to a single count of sexual battery during an arraignment hearing in Sandusky County in June and She was released on a personal recognizance bond.

Sandusky County prosecutor Tom Stierwalt said his recommendation for sentencing will depend on the outcome of a pre-sentence investigation to be completed by the probation department. If the investigation indicates she deserves prison time, he'll request she be sentenced up to 18 months behind bars.
